The Roman sporting calendar is full of exciting sporting events which are conducted throughout the year. A day out to witness a premier league football match played at Rome’s prestigious Olympic stadium is a must, even if you are not a die hard football fan. If football is not for you, why not participate in the annual Rome City marathon with its renowned route through the ancient city or time your vacation with the Italian Open Tennis tournament which is conducted at the Foro Italico Tennis Stadium in Rome. Make sure you reserve your accommodation well in advance of the scheduled event as the best hotels fill up very quickly. If competitive sport is not your forte the fabulous city of Rome has plenty of casual sporting activities such as golf and cycling which you can take advantage of.
City Marathon The entire city of Rome comes alive for the Rome City Marathon which takes place on the historic streets of Rome which are generally crowded with thousands of tourists. The marathon begins on the prestigious Via dei Fori Imperiali which is in the vicinity of the most spectacular sporting arena of ancient times, The Colosseum.The 42km marathon route then passes through most of the significant attractions of the Ancient city and such timeless monuments like the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and Piazza Venezia. The Rome City Marathon is well renowned in international running circles and is conducted each year during springtime. For non serious runners who still wish to participate there is also a significantly shorter “fun run”. |
