Jardin des Tuileries

Enjoying a central location in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, Jardin des Tuileries (Tuileries Garden) provides visitors with a picturesque getaway in the heart of the capital. Connecting the Louvre to Place de Condorde, this over 20 hectare garden is situated near the Seine River and its quiet ponds, fascinating statues and charming natural setting makes it an ideal spot for both families and couples looking to enjoy a relaxed day out in Paris.

The former site of Palais des Tuileries (Tuileries Palace) which was built for Queen Catherine de Medicis, Jardin des Tuileries owes much of its form, shape and beauty to Andre Le Notre. Having also worked on the Versailles Park, Andre Le Notre as his capacity as royal gardener to Louis XIV (who was staying at the Tuileries Palace at the time), designed the garden in 1664. Though the palace was burnt to the ground in 1871 following a small revolt, Jardin des Tuileries has stood the test of time and today offers visitors a scenic and laidback setting in which to enjoy life away from the busy city streets of Paris.

Those entering Jardin des Tuileries in Paris will soon find themselves surrounded by a variety of trees, sparkling fountains, carefully made pathways and vibrant flowers which make an idyllic setting in which to enjoy a quiet afternoon stroll. Children will love the large basins where they can play with wooden sailboats, while grownups can head to the Jardin du Carroussel section (the site of the former palace) where one will find several bronze statues designed by Maillol. Home to a lively carnival during the summer, Jardin des Tuileries has something for everyone and is a great place to visit at any time of the day.
