Eiffel Tower

The iconic Eiffel Tower is often what comes to mind when one thinks of Paris. Located in the 7th arrondissement and situated on the Champ de Mars (close to the River Seine), this 324 meter tall iron giant is one of the biggest tourist attractions of the city not to mention one of the most photographed as well. Apart from providing breathtaking views, the Eiffel Tower which is illuminated in the evenings is a grand spectacle in its own right and is a great place to visit for the entire family.

Named after its chief engineer, Gustave-Alexandre Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower was initially built for the World`s Fair of 1889. Construction which began in 1887 was completed in 1889 as the tower officially opened on the 6th of May. Made out of puddle iron, the Eiffel Tower consists of 18,038 different parts, weighs a whopping 10,100 tons and has a total of 1,665 steps!

While the Eiffel Tower is serviced by lifts, visitors also have the option of walking up to the second floor (top floor only accessible by lift). Each floor of this colossal tower has something different to offer from the interactive displays and electronic telescope of the first floor to the spectacular 360 degree view of Paris from the second. Of course for a truly awe inspiring view of the city, be it day or night, one has to head to the top floor where the enchanting sights of Paris stretch out as far as the eye can see.
