The Florida Classic remains one of the nations foremost black college matches. Having gotten off to a shaky start the series was abruptly cancelled from 1983 to 1984 until the Bethune-Cookman matches which were introduced at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl in 1997 sparked a nationwide interest and attracted mega giant Walt Disney World as its faithful sponsor.
