Angel Sunday - Majorca |
A traditional festival dating back to the 15th century, the feast of Angel Sunday is celebrated the Sunday after Easter. Known by its local name of Domingo del Angel, Angel Sunday is held in Palma, the vibrant capital of Majorca. This festival consists of processions, blessings and a celebration of delicious local cuisine, now who can resist that! Angel Sunday is one of Majorca’s more popular festivals and commences in the early hours of morning. Hundreds of locals and tourists gather at the old Town Hall for a colourful and lively procession that ends at the magnificent Castle de Bellver. It is here that the true celebrations of Angel Sunday begin, join in the fun as bands of musicians pick up a lively tune and fancy dressed ‘giants’ mingle with the crowd. Of course you can’t miss out on the vibrant spread of food, covering a range of delicious local cuisine. You will definitely find yourself transported to a Mediaeval time of dancing and laughter as the bands pick up and the dancing gets merrier, by the way children are well thought of on Angel Sunday with a number of kiddies games being organised and a large array of delicious sweets to munch on.
