About Her Majesty`s Theatre London The fourth theatre in line at this location Her Majesty’s Theatre (or His Majesty’s-depending on the successor to the British throne) was designed by architect C J Phipps and opened in April 1897. Her Majesty’s Theatre features 1210 seats on 4 levels and holds an impressive track of past performances.
The foremost being ‘Chu Chin Chow’ in 1916 which ran to a successful 2238 performances, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ clocked in 2030 performances in 1967 while more recent productions include Andrew Lloyd Webbers-‘Phantom of the Opera’ which has staged a staggering 7000 performances between 1986 and 2003. A noteworthy feature of this theatre’s past is that a 2nd theatre opened at this spot in 1791, which played hosts to Mozart’s first opera presentations in London – ‘La Clemenza de Tito’ in 1806, ‘Cosi Fan Tutti’ in 1811 and Don Giovanni in 1816.
Location… Colourful Haymarket on Strand is close to Trafalgar Square, River Thames and Fleet Street. There’s plenty of sightseeing spots with The National Gallery, Chinatown and the BBC World Service Centre close by while some of London’s best hotels and international restaurants are also found in the vicinity. Travel is a simple matter with Charing Cross Tube Station found close to Her Majesty’s theatre providing plenty of connections to any part of the city. |
