Barbican Theatre London |
 |
About Barbican Theatre London The Barbican Theatre opened in March 1982. Designed by architects Chamberlain, Powell and Bon the theatre is part of the Barbican Centre which includes 3 cinemas, a library, a concert hall and a studio theatre. Formerly home to the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Barbican was transformed to a dance, opera and musical theatre in 1997 to an exorbitant cost of £1.9 million, which paid off
when the theatre re-opened in September 1997 with three impressive performances by the Royal Opera House. An unique feature at the Barbican is its auditorium where seats are on 3 narrow tiers jutting out above each other thus placing all seats at a maximum distance of 65 feet from the stage. There are a total of 1168 seats. The Royal Shakespeare Company still carries out seasonal performances, while the Barbican Centre’s – ‘international theatre’ season is on show all year round.
