About Apollo Victoria Theatre London A novelty theatre, the Apollo Victoria was opened in 1930 and was named the New Victoria Cine-Variety Theatre. The theatre was designed by architects E Warmsley Lewis with W E Trent in order to accommodate both cinema films and live stage shows. The Cine-theatre was later closed down and re-opened in 1981 for live shows under its present name the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
With a seating capacity of 2208 on 2 levels the grade 2 Apollo Victoria boasts an impressive portfolio of shows with the ‘Shirley Bassey Show’ in 1981, ‘The Sound of Music’ staring Petula Clark, ‘Camelot’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ in 1983. Most impressive was the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ‘Starlight’ which ran to a staggering 7406 performances. The Apollo once again received a facelift in 2002, opening with another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical-‘Bombay Dreams’
Location… The Apollo Victoria is located on Wilton Road, Victoria close to Westminster City, trendy hotels and the marvellous fashion shops of Knightsbridge. Sightseeing is a breeze with good old Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey within easy reach. The Victoria Station and underground is not far from the Apollo Victoria and provides easy connections to all parts of the city, while plenty of buses and taxis are readily available so that you may enjoy the lively entertainment and wonders of this vibrant city without too much hassle. |
