The Proms |
 |
About the Proms Owing its name to the “promenade” area of a hall where the audience stands, the Proms is a series of over 70 concerts which provide the public a chance to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of classical music. In keeping with its founder Robert Newman’s dream of providing a wide range of high quality music to a mass audience, the 110 year old Proms are reasonably priced and encourage the public to come and experience first hand some of the greatest works ever composed. Held between mid July through to mid September, this crescendo of classical music reaches its climax at the ever popular last night performance which is mirrored in the outdoor musical extravaganza known as Proms in the Park. Although legends such as Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Bach may not be here in person, there music lives on through the Proms, for all to hear and enjoy
Location The main Prom concerts take place at London’s magnificent Royal Albert Hall which is located near the south side of picturesque Kensington Gardens. Those looking for quick access to the hall can make use of the London Underground’s South Kensington, High Street Kensington and Gloucester Road Stations which are all just walking distance away. Bus numbers 9, 10 and 52 have stops close to the Royal Albert Hall, while those planning on attending the closing Proms in the Park concert at Hyde Park can get off at the Hyde Park Underground Station. |
