Christmas Tree - London |
 |
About the Christmas Tree Christmas time in London has its own special holiday atmosphere and is characterised by the huge Christmas Tree at Trafalgar Square which shines out like a beacon of hope in the night. Given every year as a gift of friendship by the people of Norway for England’s help during the Second World War, this magnificent Norwegian spruce is lit by white lights which stay on till January 6th, the Twelfth Night of Christmas, when the tree is taken down. Apart from just enjoying the view, visitors to the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree can also listen to the singing of Christmas carols by various choir groups as they spread that infectious holiday cheer around.
Location The Christmas Tree is traditionally hoisted up at the famous Trafalgar Square which is located in the heart of central London. The area with its many museums and galleries is easily accessible via public transport services including the well connected London Underground system. Those wishing to visit the Christmas Tree and indeed Trafalgar Square can get off at the Charing Cross, Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus Underground Stations which are just walking distance away, while route numbers 3, 6, 9, 11 and 12 (to name but a few) of the local bus service also stops near by. |
