 |
About the Chinese New Year Known as the Spring Festival which heralds the coming of the new season, the Chinese New Year gives visitors a chance to experience a celebration like no other. The festivities take place between late January and mid February depending on the lunar/solar calendar and transforms the London city centre into a vibrant oriental setting with its traditional music, dances, martial arts performances, parades, street markets, paper dragons and not forgetting spectacular displays of the famous Chinese fireworks. In keeping with its traditional roots, the Chinese New Year is a time for fostering friendships between family and friends and provides an unique atmosphere in which to celebrate the New Year all over again.
Location The Chinese New Year festivities are especially centred around the Soho area, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square. Gerrard Street in Soho is at the heart of London’s Chinatown and is home to over 60 charming Chinese restaurants which provide an authentic taste of the orient for those looking to truly immerse themselves in the holiday spirit. Traditional performances and parades can also be found at Trafalgar Square, while at Leicester Square one can catch the dazzling display of Chinese fireworks. Soho and Leicester Square can be reached via the Leicester Square Underground Station and those looking for easy access to Trafalgar Square can make use of the Charing Cross Railway Station.
