About Bonfire Night Bonfire Night takes place every 5th of November in England and is in celebration of conspirator Guy Fawkes’ failed attempt to blow King James l and the English Parliament to kingdom come in 1605. True to its name Bonfire Night is characterised by the burning of Guy Fawkes effigies on a bonfire, while the London sky is set ablaze with dazzling displays of fireworks. There is a carnival atmosphere throughout the city and those looking to truly get into the spirit of things can try some traditional baked potatoes, hot soup and sticky cakes which are served on this most festive of occasions.
Location One of Bonfire Night’s main draws is its spectacular fireworks displays which take place at different venues across the city including Alexandra Palace, Battersea Park, Blackheath, Morden Park, Ravenscourt Park, Roundwood Park, Streatham Common and Wandsworth Park. Those looking for a unique vantage point to witness Bonfire Night and its colourful night sky display can sign up for the “Losing the Gunpowder Plot” in Westminster which takes visitors on a ride across the River Thames. The Westminster Underground Stop provides easy access to the Westminster area, while Streatham Common and Wandsworth Park can be reached via the Streatham Railway Station and the Wandsworth Town Railway Station respectively. |
