The Uffizi Gallery played a key role in the movie ‘Hannibal,’ the Gallery was used as the place where Hannibal Lecter hides after escaping from prison and this is also where he commits two gruesome murders in ‘Silence of the Lambs.
Apart from starring in a famous Hollywood movie the museum is world renowned for its Primitive and Renaissance painting and sculptures. The Uffizi Gallery is one of Florence’s popular museums. The Uffizi accommodates the foremost collected works of Italian Renaissance art, featuring works by such masters as Botticelli, Titian, Michelangelo and da Vinci. The gallery also gives precedence to German, Dutch and Flemish masters such as Durer, Rembrandt and Rubens.
The museum is located in the top floor in a building that houses administrative offices of the Tuscan State. The building was built between 1560 and 1580. The museum was started by Grand-duke Francesco I, various members of the Medici family and the Lorraine Grand-dukes also contributed heavily to the collection.

Opening Hours The museum is open from Tuesday through till Sunday from 8.15am to 6.50pm. Please note that Uffizi Gallery is closed on Monday, for New Years, May first and for Christmas.
Location The Uffizi Gallery in located at Piazzale Degli Uffizi, 50122 Firenze. The gallery is easily accessible by public transport. The closest train station to the Gallery is Santa Maria Novella, the museum is roughly a 10 min walk, but if you are running out of time bus 23 will get you there fast and safe.
