We have stayed in hotels all over the world, and I can honestly say that this is by far the worst hotel we have ever experienced. The staff were very un helpful, in fact they were almost rude. There were not enough staff on duty and we had to wait ages to get checked in and to get access to our saftey deposit boxes, one night I had to go out without my jewellery as I couldn't wait any longer. The rooms were in need of repair, the sink and the bath were full of cracks and the shower was all rusty. The paint was peeling of the walls and the lighting was so poor in the bedroom that we had to leave the toilet light on just to see what we were doing. When we came back one night there was dirty bed linen lying on top of our bed and the heating had been fully turned up. When we came back to pick up our luggage the day we were leaving, we asked where the toilets were in the hotel only to be told that the only toilets for the guest were in the rooms and as we had already checked out there was no where for us to go. I would never go back to this hotel and would never ever recommend it to anyone, in fact I would tell them to avoid it at all costs. Read Less

The hotel is perfectly situated for everything. We weren't very impressed with the first room they allocated us but it was no problem for them to change us to another room which was fantastic with a great view down 33rd to the Hudson river. We had fresh bed linen every day, with fresh towels everyday and even the heating switched on for us at 5.00 pm before we came in from a hectic days sight seeing - very impressed by this. The staff were all courtious throughout. Would definitely recommend it to others but beware of having a room on the front, which ours was, it can be noisy but then the whole of New York is. A very enjoyable holiday with no problems, many thanks to RoomsNet. Read Less

I stayed in this hotel a few days ago & I have to say I was completely & utterly disappointed with my room. I stayed with a group who had booked the Penn 500 option which included breakfast. The only advantage to this seems to be a superior quality room, as none of my group would eat the breakfast of buns, apples and coffee. I had booked the room only option preferring to breakfast with the locals in nearby diners. At no point was I informed that the Penn 500 option entitled you to a superior room. My room was appalling & one of my friends insisted on staying with me. I will say the bed linen & towels were clean, as was the bathroom & the shower was one of the most powerful I have used. However the room was so worn & used looking & the overall cleanliness of it left alot to be desired, the dust on the surfaces was a long time gathering & the carpet had not been vacuumed properly in what looked like months. The fridge in the room was filthy. I had heard from friends that the hotel was basic & not the best & I was prepared for that as the location being just down the street from Macy's and Times Square could not be beaten. But having paid ?390 for 2 nights at a room only rate I was shocked. I am from Ireland & used to paying above and beyond for basic services, but if anyone walked into a hotel room in Ireland that was the same poor standard as my room in the Pennsylvania it would not be tolerated. The hotel is at a good location but the rooms could do with a major revamp the room left a lot to be desired. A warning to visitors do not use the phone as the chareges are astronomical. I got chared 13.42 for a call that wasnt answered 3 calls made to a location in new jersey were charged at an international rate also. We werent told of this when registering.

My husband and myself stayed at this hotel for two nights, to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The hotel reception was bright and spacious and the receptionist whilst unfriendly was efficient. On arrival at the room, No 1463 we were shocked and horrified. It was tiny! The bed barely big enough for two people. The paintwork was crumbling and ancient around the door frame (the door was new and had obviously been recently installed). The carpet was nylon cheap quality and ill fitting. The wall beside the bed had a multiple stain (possibly blood or some other disgusting stain). The radiator was like something from the last century and beside it there was a pile of dust and rubble from where some type of "work" had been carried out. We pulled back the covers to check on the bed linen and this indeed was spotless. We were horrified so I rang reception and explained how upset we were. At first I was told all the rooms in the hotel were of the same standard, decor and size and when I offered to pay for an upgrade I was told that we could indeed be upgraded to a modernised revamped room for one hundred dollars plus taxes per night, but the room would still be the same "shoe box" size. The loo was spotless but tiny. We declined to pay the upgrade to a room of equal size as it was space we wanted. We would not recommend this hotel for anything but location. Read Less

First of all I was expecting the rooms to be bit more worthwild. The prices of the rooms are very expensive for a 2 star hotel. It is though very ideal location for tourists as Times Square and Empire State Building is a 5 minute walk away. Also, you have Madison Square Garden cross the road. It is best to book the hotel in your home country weeks in advanced and not book a room while your there. In short the rooms are OK but the facilities are very poor with not very nice wallpaper Read Less

The Pennsylvania hotel was fantastic, it is in a great location, right opposite Madison Square garden, only 8 blocks down from Time Square. The hotel was very clean and tidy, the staff were very helpful, my daughter is in a wheelchair and they were very helpful, there is a ramp and disabled lift into the lobby which is very spacious and 10 evevators to all the floors so you don't have to wait long to get to your room. The room was very clean, fresh bedding and towels every day, and air con which in the summer is a life saver.

This was the 3rd time i have stayed in this hotel. The floor looked like it had dried paint on it, one of the lamps didn't work and the hot water was off. I did tell them at the desk and they fixed the lamp and the water was back on even though it was on and off. The location is perfect as you have a short walk to Chelsea and a bit further to Greenwich Village and the other way you have Time Square within a 3-5 minute walk. 5th Ave is a short walk too. The best thing about the Pennsylvania Hotel is its location. It is right next to Macy's and only two blocks from the Empire State building. Penn Station is just across the road and this was really convenient this year, as we flew into Newark Airport and were able to get a train direct from the airport to Penn station, and just had to cross the road to get to our hotel. No taxi needed. On the other hand, when we did require to call a taxi (we were in new York for a wedding) there is a very helpful porter who hailed one for us using his very shrill whistle! The housekeeping service was excellent. Our room could have done with some minor refurbishmenta and the hotel has an air of faded glory, but it is reasonably priced, so I'm not complaining about that. We stayed there last summer and we recommended it to a group of our friends who went to NY for a shopping trip just before Christmas and they were quite satisfied with it too.
