We recently stayed at the Edison, the rooms were basic but clean if not a bit dingy. It is a very big hotel and our room was a reaonable size. The best thing about this hotel is its location. Fab location just a step out the door and your in Times Square. Hotel is fine nothing fancy, on arrival where put on the 16th floor in a room with a double bed as i was travelling with my friend it was to close for comfort so they moved us to another room with two singles very quickly. Its def not the Ritz but for the time we where there it suited us perfectly and would recommend it as for its location and value for money and i will stay there again without a doubt. Read Less

Very central, being just off Broadway at Times Square (which is really a triangle). Exceptionally busy and noisy streets all over NY but we were insulated from it in our hotel and sleeping was no problem. Why do the Yellow Cabs drive on their horns? Close to the subway so you can go uptown (north) or downtown (south) and 7 day ticket at $24 definitely worth it. Fast and safe. There is a diner off the lobby but we didn't use it as it looked dull, so we walked a few hundred yards west along the same street (47th) to a busy diner that made great cheap food. Service everywhere was good. If you just need a base, this hotel makes sense - not plush but perfectly adequate. First time we've been supplied with an iron and board in our room. Reported a loose bathroom door handle at reception and went upstairs. Their repairman arrived in minutes. There are other much more expensive hotels close by, but this one did the job. Read Less

Having read other reviews, I was getting a bit concerned about the hotel, but had nothing to worry about. The rooms did look a bit tired, but were a great size, and the location was spot on!! just round the corner from Times Square, and walkable to Central Park. Bearing in mind the price, I would definitely stay again. Read Less

Do not be put off by the appearance of Hotel Edison from the outside because as soon as you enter through the revolving door with period jazz music playing outside it, you enter into one of the most stunning hallways I have ever come accross! This hotel is fantastic!!
Due to being very busy when we arrived the check in was abrupt and to the point, however, on returning to to the reception area for information, the staff here were extremely helpful and very happy to help you.
The room we had on the sixth floor was large and very clean and cleaned to a high standard every day we were there. There wasn't a view from our windows but then with Times Square 20 steps to the right of the front door it didn't really bother us. The bathroom was clean, quite small but apart from having a shower (fantastic shower!), sitting on the toilet or drying yourself (which there was room to do this) what else do you need?!
The room was decorated to a 1930's style as is the whole hotel and it adds to the splendour of the hotel and is unique.
To end, I highly reccomend this hotel to anyone. The price you pay to stay here is out of this world in terms of where you are in New York, remember 20 steps to the right is Times Square, theatres accross the street and three main ones out the back door including Tarzan for all the families (as of november 2006). There is no where else in New York, I would stay when I return and believe me I will.

maybe our bad luck, but the staff on the morning we arrived were very uninviting and insisited on a small bit of paper to confirm our room payment, even though we booked the hotel during our travels and the document the internet gave us was the confirmation sheet and THE only one that was to be printed off and given to staff as proof of purchase, but would they accept it? not till i kicked up a fuss and told her to wind her neck in and be a bit more mature about the situation. if she wanted it in A5 rather than in A4 size i would have cut it in half for her lol!
They were more interested in taking tips off you rather than making you feel welcome, but the location was fantastic, and i would definately stay there again and ignore the impatient staff. at the end of the day...your in new york and shouldn't be in a hotel other than to sleep.
this place is a good deal for new york and is in Times Square . . . Can't get better than that! Read Less
