I LOVE THIS PLACE... cheap and cheerful and does the job....located just near the UN Building its fantastic...the receptionist/security are freindly and very very helpful..i had a major prblem with my booking upon arrival but they told me dont worry everything will be grand and they sorted my problem out...the rooms....they are small but just what you need for new york...all you need to do is sleep and wash here..thats it...lots of things to do and see in the city so get out there and discover...there is of course a bed, pillow and if your like me and need two reception will be more than happy to get you another one...on the premises there is 24 hour security with a HUGE GYM AND SWIMMING POOL if you have time...there is a bit of noise at night but that is to be expected...i stayed in a single private room with a shared bathroom/shower...the showering/bath room facilities are grand and i only ever had to wait 15 minutes max for a free shower so it wasnt too bad....central station is located very close to the YMCA which is great for Metro and other services....have fun staying here i love it!

The YMCA is very basic as far as accom is concerned so as long as you just need a place to sleep without much expectation, you won't be disappointed. Good location 5-10 mins walk from Chrysler building & Grand Central station. I didn't use the leisure facilties but they looked very good - huge, clean & not too busy.

Room had a distinctive odour which no amount of perfume spraying would shift. Overall we enjoyed our stay in New York, probably would not stay at the YMCA again though. It is decent enough for what you pay, but I prefer beds without the bugs! I read comments on here before I went, and yes, the rooms are small, the heating system does sometimes sound like your neighbour has taken a hammer to it, but it is only a few blocks from 5th Avenue! Pack your Cif wipes and give it a go!

i have stayed here twice before and found the location great and the price affordable. this time however the room was terrible, the noise from the heating system every hour on the hour kept me awake all week. i got no sleep it was like a hammer on iron every hour right at my ear. why is it necessary to put a massive fridge in the room. the room was awful and gruby. the worst room i ever was in. thousands were spent on renovating the gym area downstairs - a bit of paint and clean carpets would really have helped the room. this was my third and last time at the YMCA i just couldnt go through that again.
