This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to lots of major attractions. I was worried about the room after reading some reviews but was lucky to have a recently refurbished one (though not to a particularly high standard). Quite small with no view but you're only really there to sleep anyway. Didn't have a hairdryer although other members of our party did in their room. Staff were friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Wellington should i return to New York.

Location very good. One of the first rooms given didn't was very small, with a small double bed with a very small window and a poor view. After an argument the reception staff upgraded to an adequate room. There were no tea/cofee facilities or a small fridge - these would have been good. Otherwise, room service, reception service, and the porter service was good.

Elaborate entrance, foyer, liveried staff, etc belied a behind the scenes contrast. Our room was squalid - old & cracked wc that wouldn't flush, cracked tiles & old shower curtain, large floor to ceiling pipe in bathroom flaking with rust, bedroom furniture extremely tatty. Bed linen & towels were clean, but otherwise very poor cleanliness. NO HOSPITALITY TRAYS THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL (think this absence of basic expectation should be highlighted). We requested & were given another room; the bathroom was better but furniture equally poor quality and very tatty. Behind the elaborate facade the hotel was dirty and tatty. We kept our feelings between ourselves and reception staff, but noted many other people complaining. Would not recommend.

We booked a standard room which was disappointing especially as the air conditioning did not work. We were upgraded at no charge the air con worked but was very noisy. The location however was excellent quite central to everything we did. Spent very little time in the hotel but the cafe attached for meals was very good value.
