You should always remember to take enough medication with you. Preferably more than enough in case of delays. Bring prescription glasses and contacts and enough cleaning solutions. Also, have enough knowledge of the language to get by in case of any problems

Never travel without your European Health Insurance Card, no matter how comprehensive you THINK your travel insurance to be; this card not only allows you access to free medical care in all member states but acts as a form of ID and contains on the reverse the ‘phone numbers and web sites for the NHS and Governmnet advice for travellers.
In the same vein, take along your usual preferred ‘pain killers’ ie paracetomol or ibuprofen, theses over the counter remedies are very cheap in UK supermarkets BUT very expensive in countries like Spain and Portugal.
If like me, your spectacles are a necessity, keep your options covered. E mail your spectacle prescription to yourself and leave it on file. If an accident occurs to your glasses your prescription is available from any computer.

Have just found out about a currency card ,were you can put money on this card and use it like an ordinary card,as long as you have a balance .will use this. in future. all the info is on the net As well as the usual medicines,Iwill now always take bandages including elastic and crepe. This year in Tenerife I sprained my ankle in apartment so couldn’t walk ,my husband went everywere looking for a bandage with no luck.Managed to buy crutches so could at least get on plane. So take my advice and stock up with as many things that you can think of!!

    Taking some books?
They are bulky and add extra weight.
Take a Sony PRS-505 eReader. It comes with 100 ‘classic books but modern books are available, at very freasonable prices, from Fictionwise.com, so you can take a library of several hundred books in the volume taken by a single, slim, novel, at about half the weight!

English tea bags! For those tea addicts like my wife travelling to exotic locations and relying on the local tea, can be like looking for water in the desert. For coffee drinkers there is no problem because most of Euope and The United States provide excellent coffee, but if you drink traditional English tea exclusively then watch out. Don’t take any chances and pack enough tea bags to last for the duration of your holiday.

  17. Tracey Broadfoot Says:

Always put your medication in your hand luggage in case your case gets lost or delayed at the airport. This happened to me on my last holiday but luckily I had my medication with me.

I always forget to take a hairbrush

My friend always packs about 6 pairs of shoes and never wears them as your feet swell in the heat and she just wears flip flops or sandals the whole holiday - always take comfortable shoes with you and no not overpack

Next time in Spain, buy a small back to back AA/AAA battery charger, its light, small and works in a shaver adapter at home. Invaluable! Hang onto 100ml bottles (with sticky labels) for your favorite shampoo & cond and look out for nivea atomiser spray deo. Add a small pocket battery razor & your truely mobile. All you got to do now is layer your cloths ( 4 light instead of 2 heavy layers) and your sorted. bonne voyage!

  19. Alan Mc Says:

This is a packing tip as opposed to a what to take with you tip.
A lot of people, when packing, tend to put all of Dads belongings in the first suitcase, all of Mums belongings in the second and the kids stuff in the final suitcase.
Rather than do that, spread everybodys clothes between all the suitcases and then, if you are unlucky enough to have a suitcase lost or delayed, at least everone will have something to wear until the situation is sorted.

Take aloe vera gel or other good cure. No matter how careful one is someone in the family gets too much sun. Maybe someone forgot to protect the back of the neck !
