reception staff in general appeared to be anti-tourist and totally disinterested in any problems which may upset the routine. example- the cable car to the bottom road broke down for 3 days - and when it was indicated that we had a mobility problem and found it very difficult to walk the banks up and down to the bus stop , it was stated that we could always get taxis - albeit that there was another exit down to the road. February in Majorca can be a pleasant break from the bitter cold of the UK.
Previously we have stayed at the 2 star Horizonte over the road from the Hotel Catalonia - Majorica. Whilst the Horizonte was basic, very clean and provided a reasonable breakfast, this year was an opportunity to upgrade to the 'decent looking 4 star' hotel over the road.
Other than the additional cost thats where the differences ended. The room was okay, breakfast and service about the same and if anything the 4 star failed to live up to 2 star cleanliness and freshness.
In summary, between the 2 hotels save yourself a lot of money and go to the Horizonte and use the money saved to eat in decent restaurants in Palma. Read Less

Whilst we were there, we encountered several cockroaches and silver fish. There was also a bad/damp smell in the hotel. The indoor pool looked dirty and so we did not use it. The staffs attitude was very rude and un-helpful. Also we had to pay to use the safes, which was not mentioned before hand. In the bedroom the socket was not properly fixed to the wall, which was un-safe. And the door frame out to the balcony was not properly attached to the wall and therefore , would have been easy for someone to break into the room. Not a good stay! :( :( :( Read Less

The only potential problem is lack fo parking for any guests, like us, who had picked up a car from the airport for touring round the island. We were fortunate, staying off season and found on road parking nearby. Apart from this the hotel was excellent and I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Palma. Read Less

We absolutly loved this hotel, the car lift from the main street was not working for 2 days which meant a walk up hill but once fixed it was fine, loved the views from the room, seeing the sunrise was really nice, breakfasts were very good and having fried eggs or omeletes cooked fresh was excellent. We would certainly recomend this hotel. There is a big shopping mall within easy walk, Palma is about 1 hour 30 mins walk or the regular busses get you there in 10 mins. Read Less

The view from our bedrooms was fantastic, overlooking the harbour. However, the Hotel was not easily accesible if walking. You had to take an indoor cable lift down to the main road below and catch a bus or taxi.
Buses although very regular, are overcrowded and not suitable for the elderly.
I had my purse snatched from the bus and ended up at the police station where they were very helpful!
The rooms were large, comfortable and spotlessly clean in the hotel and could not be faulted, however the lifts were too small for the amount of people using them.
The food was good, but didn't cater for vegetarians very well, because all fried food was done on the same griddle with animal fat.
The reception staff were helpful when asked questions, but they didn't speak good English.
We were not told anything about places to go, or how to find them and no excursions were advertised in the foyer. You had to ask for that.
Although I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Catolonia Majorica, I would choose somewhere more accessible next time I visit Palma. Read Less

This is not the first time at staying at the Majorica and it has always been an enjoyable one. However, this year it was starting to look a little shabby in places and could do with a bit of an overhaul. The position is great as long as you don't mind a walk up hill although with the convention centre opening on Ave. Joan Miro you can now get a cable car up to the hotel and avoid the hill. Porto pi is only 5 mins away and Palma centre is a 20 minute walk along the marina. Very good, if not probably a true 4 star hotel. Read Less

For a 4* hotel I felt it rather "ticked the boxes". Our room had a magnificent view over the marina but the walls ought to have been repainted as they were very scuffed marked. The bathroom was adequate but as it was internal I was surprised that it had no expelling fan fitted. A well stocked mini-bar was available but a kettle plus coffee/tea would have been a useful addition. Breakfast was excellent with a vast selection but dinner was disappointing - lots of hundreds and thousands sprinkled on to things! For a 4* hotel I would have expected fresh flowers everywhere instead of droopy dusty silk ones. Its location up a steep hill ought to be mentioned as should the fact that it is no where near to a beach and that it takes at least 45 minutes to walk into Palma thus making a taxi rather a necessity for returning at night. Hiring a car is highly recommended. Be warned - getting out of Palma until you have cracked their ring road is quite complicated but once you do then it's quite simple! Read Less
