The Carlton proved to be an excellent choice. It was very good value for money, the room was spacious and well-planned and everything worked (unlike some places we have stayed in). We would certainly stay there again and would recommend it to friends.
Unlike some other reviewers, we didn't have any problem with noise from the street, but we live close to a main road and are well used to it. The hotel is ideally placed if you have come to Madrid to visit the three great art museums. The Reina Sofia is less than 5 minutes away, another 5 takes you to the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Prado is some 10 minutes further along a nice shady walk. The neighbouring Retiro park is a good place to relax if you have OD'd on art. The metro is also close by so there's no problem getting right to the city centre or across town. There are some good non-touristy places to eat in the immediate neighbourhood including Casa Luciano and El Brillante. << click here to read less |

Unfortunately they have very expensive prices for internet access, and the internet is coming from an external provider.
It doesn't look acceptable to me to have such a high price for internet access in the 21st century, in a 4 star hotel... in a 2 or 3 star hotel this would be understandable. << click here to read less |

Carlton Hotel is fine. Everything was lovely. Breakfast was included. It was a buffet and absolutely beautiful. To get around Madrid you will need to use the Metro. The station is very close as are several of the attractions of the City. Staff in the Hotel were pleasant too. There was tea and coffee in the room. A few English speaking TV chanels wouldnt go amiss, but for a short stay BBC and CNN were ok. A note on MARDID--- IF YOU SMOKE all the Tobacco shops close on Saturday-----------how odd!!!! You will get smokes in Cortes des Ingles department stores on a Saturday ---- good selection of Cigars at their outlet at Nuevos Ministerios Metro station..........cheaper than Duty Free. The Carlton hotel is very central and the rooms were good apart from the extractor fan not working in the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with hot and cold food.
However one of our party fell ill during the trip and the hotel staff were not very helpful in getting a doctor to see him which was disappointing. << click here to read less |

This hotel provided a very good start to our holiday. Excellent location near to the main station and 2 metro lines within 500 meteres. Excellent local restaurants and bars just around the corner. The breakfasts were outstanding. Lots of choice including a whole cooked ham on the bone to slice at. The coffee, so often the weak point in hotels, was excellent from a bean to cup machine. The location is a good base for walking to the main museums/galleries but the Madrid metro is very good. I will return to Madrid and would be more than happy to stay at the Carlton. << click here to read less |

Although not in the very heart of Madrid, the Carlton is very close to Atocha station and the Metro so getting around is not a problem. The Carlton however is only a short walk to the Prada Museum and other local attractions. We found the staff very helpful and courteous. We were allocated a room overlooking a small courtyard and the room was very quiet but if you are given a roadside room I would say that the noise from the very busy traffic could be a problem. One of the best things at this hotel is the excellent breakfast with a good choice and plenty of it. All in all I would definitely recomend the Carlton for a short stay in Madrid, yes there are better hotels that are better placed but for a good clean hotel at a good price the Carlton was just what we required for our 4 night stay and we would use it again. << click here to read less |
