If you want to be right in the middle of Madrid. This is the hotel for you There is a but, Madrid is a 24/7 place so noise at nite is a ploblem. We had a great time. PS The hotel restaurant menu is very cheap. 88% 07-Oct-2008

Remember this is a budget priced hotel and not The Ritz and you won't be disappointed. Room 419 was clean and tidy with adequate drawer/wardrobe space. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom/shower was clean and well stocked daily with fresh towels, soap, gels etc. Some reviewers have criticized the hot water (or lack of it), I found it perfectly adequate. I had breakfast in the hotel. It comprised: orange juice, cold meats, cheese, ciabatta, croissant and conserve, cakes and coffee. Cereals and milk were also available. The breakfast was very filling and I only needed a sandwich and coffee later in the day to top up. Lunch and dinner were available in the hotel and there were about 20 other restaurants within 200 metres. There was a full length window with small balcony and views along Calle Sevilla and Plaza Canalejas. Madrid is a buzy, vibrant and exciting city and it would be silly to suggest that there was no noise. However, I found that the combination of closed windows and shutters kept noise to a minimum and I was not disturbed at night. Another reviewer complained of being disturbed in the hotel by late night revellers returning at 2.00am - I didn't have any such problems as I didn't get to bed until after 3.00am :) The hotel is central for many tourist sights which are within a 20-minute walk. The Metro is 100 metres away for more distant venues including the airport. I will return to Madrid and the Hotel Asturias. Perhaps I'll see you there.

Great location. Easy to find. Near to the Sevilla Metro station. Despite the size of the hotel (big) the room felt homely and restful. I haven't been there during the height of summer but the lack of air conditioning might be an issue during July/August, although an electric fan is provided. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. On the whole - well worth it for the money in such a central location in Madrid.

The hotel that was advertised on their website looked like the one we stayed in but the facilities they mentioned must have been removed from our room before we got there. I'm sure they use booking.com to flog their spare rooms. The staff were unfriendly, cold even and didnt appear to make an effort to be friendly with any customer. The double bed was a 4'6 bed that jsut didnt not fit 2 adults over 6' tall. The hot water was sporadic, actually had hot water for only 1 shower, te rest of the time it was luke warm to tepid. The cleaners were loud and not considerate of customers at 8.30 am. The only redeeming feature of this hotel was its location as in central madrid. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. I cannot imagine the worst hotel in Ireland being like this. It was a beautiful building but shabby. When we went to the restaurant at 10pm (closing at 10.30) after securing it was still OK with the concierge, the waitress greeted us with an annoyed look and mentioned 'tarde' in the middle of her spew which prompeted us to get the hell out of the restaraunt. I have stayed in many hotels but this has be the worst I have stayed at. Deceptive pictures on website led us to feel secure in the knowledge that we got a great deal for a nice place and we were going to be comfortable in our stay. How wrong we were!!!!

Madrid is a wonderful city but DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. It is overpriced, hot, not especially clean and a rip-off at every turn. There is no air conditioning in the rooms. A fan is provided but it is noisy so you have two options - try and sleep in a hot room (open the windows but then the noise comes in off the street) or put the fan on and have the temperature a bit more bearable but have the noise of the fan. Either way, you won't sleep well. There were also hairs in both beds and the one I decided on seemed slightly better but didn't feel that clean. On the first morning I had a hot shower but on the second the water was cold. There is a safe, but you have to insert a Euro each time you want to retrieve something and then relock it. The furniture is old and faded and well past its best. The breakfast was a bowl of cocoa pops or flakes, a hard bread roll and any number of those pre-packed supermarket croissants or pastries (i.e. not fresh ones). There was also the option to have a single glass of orange juice and tea/coffee. The water was clearly from the tap and lukewarm. I was given two pieces of meat and a piece of cheese on a side plate, the meat looked like Spam and the cheese like those slices you get to put on burgers. I am aware that this hotel is 2* but for what I paid (£97), I frankly expected better and would have expected this kind of accommodation at a hostel charging £25 a night.

The hotel was very central and provided a good base for sightseeing etc. However the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms was a problem. At night the streets around the hotel were very noisy but you couldn't have the windows shut because of the lack of air. Don't count on sleeping much!!
