This is never a 4 star hotel! The rooms were dirty and the paint and plaster work crumbling. The room for the breakfast in the morning was like something out of Strictly Come Dancing and a Butlins holiday camp dining area from the seventies, with the most outdated toaster I have ever seen. The foyer was awash with dirty carpets and rugs that looked so old you couldnt even give them away. A Faceless hotel with faceless staff.

I was working rather than on holiday and therefore did not use many of the facilities but no trousers press was a nuisance given I had to wear suits. a minor point ! other than that it was good. the Breakfast was poor in the "2nd" dining room!

The Hotel Convencion is rated to 4 stars but I felt it as 3 stars. There were many tour guests. My breakfast was at the cafeteria for tour guests, coffee was served by machine. Guest room does not have refrigerator nor coffee pot. Air conditioner did not work. Wireless LAN was available at lobby but very expensive. The hotel location was very near the meeting venue so that I used. Laundry sevice is available even in the week end but expensive.

Main bugbear was the restaurant. We had booked half-board and, having been shown to a table, were not given any menu, but a bowl of soup was plonked in front of us. I asked the waiter what it was and said that I would like to see what choices there were, whereupon another waiter and the 'maitre de' came over and said that you didn't get a choice of menu with half-board. I said 'what if we don't like what you bring us?' to which we were told that the main course was 'fish a la plancha' but if we didn't like fish, we could have something else. Dessert was a piece of dry chocolate cake or a piece of fruit from the bowl. For breakfast each morning, however, numerous flans and gateaux appeared - why weren't these offered for dessert the previous evening? Not many people ate them for breakfast! The second day, we spoke to the receptionist, who said we could pay another 6 euros each to upgrade to the menu del dia, which at least offered some choice. This menu did not change daily, but every third day, so for us staying 4 nights, was not so good. People who ordered 'Trout escabeche' as a main course, not realising this is a cold dish, complained to the waiters. I feel that the attitude of the restaurant staff needs to be improved here, as the food itself was good.
