I paid the kind of price for this room that i usually pay for the Hitlon so i expected something in this league. I was seriously disappointed! The room was very cramped, the bed was broken, there were white stains all over the desk in the room and there were holes in the floor which your foot could disappear into if you were unfortunate to find it. the bathroom had a cracked floor and was very lacking in comfort. I would say to everyone thinking of going here to pay the extra 20 or 30 pounds to book into a Hilton hotel instead! I am a frequent user of hotels and will never stay in a Thistle again. Read Less

Bedroom:- in need of refurbishment. Layout poor - one edge of bed against wall making getting out during night difficult without waking partner. Shower very poor pressure and lack of hot water. Restaurant OK but nothing special, food & wine overpriced. Hotel seemed to rely on location to command price. Even at the special rate I would look elsewhere for a one night stay. Read Less

When we walked in, a manager was aggressively telling a guest that she had done all she would for him and he should go (in summary). It made a bad impression on me. Next, our reservation was not in place because my name was misspelled and misfiled. Fortunately, we were able to find our confirmation number on our laptop. However, while looking for it, we were sitting in the hotel computer area and the same manager approached us and not so gently accused us of using the hotels internet services without paying. We were not online. My husband, who is more forgiving, said she was clearly having a bad evening. However, she was also making a bad impression on weary travelers, including me.
In the end, the well-mannered, well-trained hotel clerk upgraded our room without any request from us or intervention from the manager. So it ended well. I don't know if we'd stay there again unless we absolutely had to catch the earliest train to Gatwick possible, which was the case this time Read Less

On arrival the staff were not very friendly which set the tone for our stay. The hotel is comfortable, but basic. To top things off a coat was left in the room closet. We called the following day and after being told that they would check and get back to us within the hour, we eventually called them back 2 hours later. After 3 promised call-backs that never arrived over the following 3 days we eventually wrote the coat off to "holiday expenses". Read Less

Has obviously been a very nice hotel in its day, in particular the entrance lobby and restaurants. Starting to need updating in some areas and with the shear size of the place that's going to cost a fortune. The room we were booked into was shabby and the bed only had 3 wheels on it we complained and were moved to another room where the wallpaper was filthy and the bed only had 3 wheels on it!It was also stiflingly hot. We complained again to be offered further rooms that had items of broken furniture or were very cramped. In the end we opted to return to the first room and propped the bed up using the bible. The reception staff were very helpful throughout.
For our 2nd night we were moved to a room which was fine. Read Less

I have read the other reviews and it seems that the hotel has good and bad days! I have stayed in two of the Thistle Hotels, the Victora and the Charing Cross. Both were very nice. They are not perfect, but the buildings are very old and enormous in size, the rooms are huge and the staff try their best. Would have been better if the staff had a better understanding of the English languge as they had problems understanding me. (Im Kentish and don't have an ununderstandible accent!!) Good staff, great rooms, book through "FindLondonRooms.com" as if you do it direct you are likely to pay twice as much! Read Less
