Dont stay here, ever! It might have a good location and is reasonably priced but you wont get any sleep. The music from the bar reverberates through the walls and is incredly and obnoxiously loud. And the bar it comes from has a licence until 3am - despite what an unhelpful and pointless reception will tell you at first. Read Less

The room was OK but the fittings looked a bit old and worn. There was no shaver point in the bathroom. This was our second visit. Check in was slow.
The room was a bit cold when we first went in.
Dining room staff were friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast was OK but the fried eggs were hard and there were no mushrooms. They advertise Continental breakfast, but there is no fresh fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham or croissants. Read Less

Tavistock Hotel was fully booked, so I stayed at the Royal National - a sister hotel - very close to the Tavistock. I found the Royal National a huge hotel with a nice, buzzy atmosphere - very busy and welcoming reception area with shops and other facilities. My room was clean and comfortable with good bathroom and facilities. The fire door in the corridor just outside my room was very noisy though, closing with a bang every time. Also, the coach party leaving at 4am did not respect the fact that people were trying to sleep and were conversing at full volume in the corridor as they left, accompanied by much door-banging. Apart from this, I would recommend the Royal National to anyone - very good quality for a very reasonable price. Read Less

Very pleased with my stay here. Only one slight criticism would be that the corridors were overpoweringly hot.

I will now continue the report that was terminated earlier.
The apology I received at Reception was surly at best. When I finally got to my new room - 107 - I found the electronic key failed to work here too! The night manager finally found a key that worked - at the fourth or fifth attempt.
When I got in I noticed the bathroom door was warped and wouldn't close - a problem if this was meant to be used as a double room (it had to beds)
The Tavistock used to be a fine hotel - it has Art Deco decorations on the ground floor and is probably a Listed Building. Why has the present management/ownership allowed it to sink this low?!
Areply would be appreciated - before I take the matter to the London Tourist Board.

The hotel is fab, it definitely has character. Unfortunately the windows aren't up to much. I was kept awake by the noise I could hear from the street. I also had the neon TAVISTOCK sign next to my window so it was quite light all night. In the morning the breakfast was ok. But the beans were flat cold. Strange really as they were supposedly under a hot light. The staff were great though. Read Less

The room was much too hot, stuffy and dry and I couldn't leave the window open as there was too much noise from the courtyard. Also I had requested a quite room as I had an exam the following day, and despite having made the booking over two weeks in advance, the room was only allocated when I arrived and was noisy with the room next doors occupants arriving very late at night and bumping around.
