Sorry to tell you but this is not a "charming hotel", the only good thing is the location: Gloucester Road is a very nice place, and the hotel is close to the tube station. the hotel is not clean, no facilities offered and lot of things in the room were broken:windon, sink in the toilette, the curtain (at6am the sun was already in the room), the night tables were used as tv holder, so no night tables, no night lights...and so on. We asked for a double room and got a twin. Only one headboard. One bed had a massive dip in it, so my boyfriend had to squeeze into my single. Beds had only sheets and a blanket. Room extremely shabby with torn curtains and with old fittings. The one bedside lamp was wedged on the floor by the bed so you couldn't have it on. Graffiti on the walls. The toilet seat was broken. The only plus point was that the room was at least clean and a had a good central location. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Only fit for a very brief stopover where you don't spend any time at all in the room. Read Less

We first received a twin room after explicitly requesting a double bed...
Next day we got a double room where the window couldn't shut, the tv had almost NO reception, the bed was VERY noisy, which must have been a pain in the ass for our neighbours...
Almost all appliances in the bathroom was broken or in poor shape! Though we admit that it was nice to have a bathtub..
Our closet was like 20 cm deep and had no shelves, so it seemed absolutely useless...
The receptionist told us that we had a superior room... In that case We would hate to see a standard room....
Otherwise we had a nice stay in London Read Less

I've stayed in many budget hotels in London (more than a dozen), and the Ken Ed is pretty average, as far as room quality and service goes.
What makes the Ken Ed my recent favourite is its location. It is surrounded by beautiful mansions and gardens, and it is an easy walk to both Gloucester and Earl's Court tube stations.
For those people who expect North American standard hotels, be prepared to spend double the price somewhere else. No budget hotel in London will please you. Read Less

I did not expect much for 2 stars, but it was a shock when i arrived. The hotel itself looked worn out. the matrass was very old and worn out too painful to sleep on. the room had a common balcony that it shared with the rest of the front rooms and the doors to the balcony could not be locked! this is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. despite having a confirmed reservation i was kept ewaiting in reception for 25 minutes while they found me a room. the lobby was dirty and full of cigarette smoke. the lift, corridors etc. were dirty and very worn. the room was very small, not in itself a problem, but when combined with dirty, stained and torn capet, a bed with every spring visible, dirty and torn wall paper, stained ceiling, no light shades, bedside light or any of the other facilites promised, was utterly appalling. the only things in its favour was that the sheets were clean, and the shower room was clean. i took photos but have not yet been able to transfer them to my computer. i would stongle advise that you take this hotel off your list. Although breakfast was claimed to be included in the price we paid we were humoured when we asked what time breakfast was on arrival to the hotel, apparently breakfast isn't served in the hotel at all! Our room was next to a very loud boiler room which hummed into the night and we were awoken early to loud building work from the floor above which was in the process of complete refurbishment. Room was v cold too and we only had blankets as bed covers. However, room was clean and the hotel was situated in a good location. Read Less
