The sheets were clean but the rest of the bedding smelled of stale smoke. I am a small person 5'1" and I am slim, if I was taller or heavier I would not have fitted into the toilet capsule which they call an ensuite! This is an extension built into the room enclosing a very, very small plastic capsule which is a toilet, shower and a cracked very old looking wash basin. The stairs down to the basement for breakfast were very steep. The breakfast was very good. This hotel could look and smell so much better if it had a coat of fresh paint and updated fixtures! I was only staying for 2 nights and it suited my purpose, but I think that the size of the ensuite and the steepness of the stairs should be included in the hotel discription to ensure that those who are large or have a disability do not go there. Very old converted building whose rooms are large, but bathroom area tiny. Main difficulty is steep, narrow stairs to access upper floors when guests have luggage in tow,(no assistance provided).
English Breakfast is good. Reception Desk is too often manned by polite but non-English speaking staff, creating a communication problem. Main drawback though is lack of hotel laundry facilities in an area where there aren't any laundromats for miles, just a dry-cleaner charging BPS 16.00 per medium size laundry bag.
However, location is good for restaurants, pubs, internet cafe, Paddington Station and Underground.
Would I stay there again? No, due those narrow stairs and lack of laundry facilities.
One final point. Your hotel reservation form makes no provision for guest choices such as 'ground floor room' etc and could be improved on.
But overall,it was a learning experience, so next time I'd choose Victoria as being a better base from which to access London attractions.
Thank you.

For the price you can't really argue much with the en-suite clean room with breakfast. Breakfast could be better, but otherwise OK. Whatever you do, don't stay on the bottom floor as right beneath you run the underground trains!! So you probably will get no sleep except between 1-5am. I asked to be moved but they said they had no rooms available. Strange that they still had a "Vacancies" sign on the door... Reception is smoky so not for the asthmatics. Generally OK though. Just stay on the top floor! Read Less

The one thing that would make me think twice about staying here again was that the walls are SOO thin that you can hear just about everything that happens in the rooms around you. Very clean and well kept though. Can't beat the location! We were disappointed the hotel did not have a lift, for which we specifically requested confirmation of on booking reservation, since my husband is disabled and stairs are difficult. Therefore, we stayed one night only and checked out. We explored several similar hotels in the area, and found quite a few with better accommodations at a cheaper price, AND with a lift. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. Read Less
