One of Orlando's lesser known attractions, Ripley's Odditorium (no it isn't a typo, that's what it is actually called) is a great place to spend the afternoon. For those of you who are not familiar with Ripley's, it is named after Robert Ripley, who collected unbelievable (hence the famous tag line "believe it or not") artifacts from around the world, some of which are on display here.
On arriving at Ripley's Orlando Odditorium (8201, International Drive) you may have second thoughts about going in since the building seems to be sinking into the ground (a take on Florida's deadly sinkholes), but have no fear that is done on purpose!
The Odditorium itself has many themed galleries and exhibits which are outrageous, hilarious, unbelievable and downright strange! The captions and facts which accompany most exhibits are a nice touch, so apart from shock you are left with some interesting information as well. Exhibits are a mixture of photographs and items and displays such as the shrunken heads from Ecuador, a Rolls Royce made out of 1 million matchsticks and a two-headed kitten will keep children (and grown ups) thoroughly enthralled.
Allow for about 2 hours to take in the different exhibits. The Odditorium opens as early as 9 AM and closes as late as 1 AM (tickets can be bought right until midnight) so you can wedge in a visit whenever you have the time.
If you were ever in doubt that we live in a wonderfully mixed up world, you won't be after a visit to Ripley's Orlando Odditorium!
