The Santa Martha is in a great location, close to the beach and marina. It's also walking distance to the city centre, though that's a bit futher, taking around 25 minutes. The hotel is fine for its price bracket- the front desk staff are helpful, there is a lift, and the rooms are cleaned every day. But the rooms are a bit shabby, and the breakfast was very small- just one croissant and a bread roll! I hear hotel Aqua a few doors down is nicer, and around the same price. It has better reviews on RoomsNet.com so I would probably stay there instead next time. Read Less

Arrived to find our room was not booked or at least there was no trace of our booking. After a few frantic moments the staff released a room and we were told that he would check in the morning that we had booked even though we had a printed voucher. The room was small and I'm not sure it was worth the money, but it was functional and clean. This hotel was tatty around the edges and did smell a little of cooked food in the entrance area.
It was fairly central for most things, but some walking distance from The Ramblas. Good for Marina Restuarants, and Train station. Staff very freindly and helpful. Served its purpose, do not rule it out. Read Less

I had read bad reviews about this place but REALLY it is ok. The rooms had tele, heating and aircon and ensuite all working fine. They were clean and there was a left luggage facility. We stayed at the Santa Marta Hotel in March 2007. The location is good as it is near the many Metro stops and we found it easy to find our way around from here. I would advise that if you know where you want to visit you look up the metro stop you need on the internet.
The only negative point about the hotel is that the walls are paper thin you can hear your neighbours flushing the loo.
The hotel is located down a side street but its not a quiet side street. The Rubbish men seem to work all hours under the sun and they are not quiet. Read Less

This hotel was very basic but clean, but with few facilities. The breakfasts were very poor - just bread, hot drinks and juice. We had oranges and apples to begin with, but theygot taken away after the first morning when they saw people were actually taking them - perhaps they were only supposed to be for decoration! The breakfast area was cramped and disorganised with not enough seating if people all came down at once. No English channels at all on the TV, no tea-making facilities in rooms and no plugs in the sink or the bath. The lift worked sporadically, and rooms on the sixth floor and above seemed less well appointed that rooms on lower floors. Location in a back street not very appealing, but close to metro station and nice Park de Cuitadella. Walkable to beach as well. Bar unappealing - smokey and unwelcoming, frequented apparently by locals only. Read Less

After reading the reviews for this hotel on various travel websites, we were very dubious about staying here when we arrived in Barcelona. Some of the comments that we had heard included: old fashioned rooms that were falling to pieces,it was located in a dodgy area and it had unfriendly staff. I can honestly say though, that for the price (#20 a night inc breakfast), it is a fantastic hotel to stay at. It is a 10 minute walk from Las Ramblas, right next to Port Vell and Port Olympica where a lot of the nightlife is and is NOT in a dingy alley as other travellers have stated in the past. It is located just off the main square near the nautical museum.
We had forgotten our booking voucher when we had arrived and although this is needed for the hotel to redeem the money from the travel agent - they let us stay, which most hotels would not, without pestering us and helped us to find an inetrnet cafe where we could print this off.
The rooms were very modern with wood and chrome finishes and the beds were very comfortable. We had fresh towels and linen everyday and a tasty continental breakfast. The only bad thing I could say about the room was that the TV was a little old but frankly - who goes on holiday to watch foreign television anyway!!
All in all I would recommend this hotel to anybody wanting to go to Barcelona and would definately stay there myself again! Read Less
