In it's day it would have been a fantastic hotel but is in need of a re-vamp. It has to be said though that the size of the family room was great and the bathroom was spacious. However, because of the layout of the hotel we didn't have a window facing the outside of the hotel and there was some echoing from guests within the hotel at night-time. The hotel staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us. The breakfast was good (continental). The location of the hotel (halfway down Las Ramblas) was brilliant and it was set back enough for the noise of Las Ramblas not to be a problem. Overall if you're looking for modern accommodation it's not for you but if nostalgia and great location are what you're looking for then consider the Espana. << click here to read less

A bit disappointed as there are no tea/coffee making facilities int he bedrooms and the decor a bit tired. Also the staff, though helpful were very dour - a smile would not go amiss now and again. Breakfast very disappointing but breakfast room/dining room compensated for this with fabulous original wall carvings and decor. Perfect location for shops, bars and a bus laid on for getting to the football stadium

Although the rooms were quite basic, they were perfect for a holiday where you won't be in the hotel much.
