The location...
Who would`ve thought that what started off as a coffee house would one day turn into the largest 5 star hotel in Netherlands? This 19th century hotel though now modernized, has maintained its historic fa-ade and the Winter Garden and has served royalty and state dignitaries for decades.
Located in the centre of Amsterdam, on Dam Square and opposite of the Royal Palace, the hotel is easily accessible. It is half an hour away from Schipol Airport and a shuttle bus to Schipol departs every 3 minutes. It is a mere 7 minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. The hotel even has its own landing dock for boats just behind the building.

It is in close proximity to a wide range of interesting places. Shopping stores, boutiques, museums and theatres are all a mere stone`s throw away. One block from the hotel is the Magna Plaza Shopping Mall. Also nearby are a numerous number of recreational spots. Sports lovers would therefore be happy to know that they can still indulge in their favourite activities, be it golfing, ice-skating, tennis, swimming, aerobics, motor boating, canoeing, squash and many more. There are even some places that offer lessons. The area surrounding the hotel has an active nightlife and numerous entertainment venues.

From the lounge, you can get a good view of Dam Square and the Royal Palace. The hotel offers an impressive selection of fine restaurants including the renowned Winter Garden, Restaurant Reflet, a Japanese Restaurant and a Middle Eastern restaurant. There is a business centre that offers 3 computer stations and internet access. A computer assistant is on duty if needed. Fully equipped meeting and banquet rooms accommodate up to 2000 people. It also has a fitness centre, beauty salon and shops on site. Other services they provide include shoe shine, currency exchange, airport shuttle and handicap facilities.

All the rooms are sound-proofed and have views overlooking the city. Women traveling alone can request rooms closer to the elevator with extra locks and special bathroom amenities.

i HAD PREVIOUSLY STAYED IN THE BARBIZON PALACE AND THOUGHT I WOULD TRY THE GRAND KRASNAPOLSKY FOR A CHANGE. WHEN YOU WALK IN IT IS LOVELY. THE DINING AREA WHERE WE HAD BREAKFAST WAS FANTASTIC, AS WAS THE BUFFET BREAKFAST. HOWEVER, DESPITE THE GRANDEUR I FELT THE ROOMS WERE NOT AS NICE AS THE BARBIZON PALACE. DESPITE REQUESTING A SMOKING ROOM I WAS INITIALLY PUT INTO A NON-SMOKING ROOM, WHICH WAS QUITE A TACKY ROOM - POOR QUALITY FURNITURE - HOWEVER THE STAFF MOVED ME VERY PROMPTLY TO A SMOKING ROOM WHICH WAS FAR BETTER QUALITY. ALL IN ALL, I WOULD RECOMMEND THE BARBIZON PALACE MORE THAN GRAND KRASNAPOLSKY HOWEVER I DID HAVE A VERY ENJOYABLE STAY. << click here to read less

we where pleasantly surprised at the location of our hotel, the srevice was top notch, the standard room was just as expected, clean, all toiletries provided, if you forget anything the housekeeping will provide anything for you. flat screen tv, mini bar,trouser press, again if u need an ironing board and iron, just phone housekeeping!!! we arrived four and a half hours before checkin, but the receptionist booked us in without us having to ask. we had breakfast included when we booked, but it was well worth it. the room makes you feel you are in a garden, everything you can think of was available to all. american,german, english, champagne, fresh fruit, all herb teas, everything. the waitress' and waiters cater for all your needs. hoel bar a bit pricey, 40 euros for a bottle of house red, though verypleasant and does get busy. we went as a couple, we spent #700, mon to thurs. but i would say well owrth it, we will definatley go back to amsterdam, and the hotel, next time we will experience the 'royal suites' !!!!! << click here to read less
